If you haven’t heard of a Hackday, you’re not alone. Popular in the tech industry, many of the non-software team members at Assetic hadn’t either. But that all changed in early August when we held our first inaugural Assetic Hackday at HQ.
At a Hackday different departments come together in small teams to solve a genuine business problem in the space of a single day. The solution can range from a concept to actual working software – there’s no real restriction to what teams present. The benefits are potentially very powerful – everything from team bonding, to an efficient new process, to a new or improved feature in the product suite.
For Assetic, the event was about fostering our passion to innovate to ensure we keep delivering the very best strategic asset management solutions to our clients, and keep having fun while we do it. This was certainly achieved at Assetic Hackday 2018!
Hackday was the brain-child of Assetic’s Head of Technology, Jerry Chang. “Our first Hackday has been a great success,” he said. “Not only did we create some real, cutting-edge asset management solutions that can benefit customers in the future product roadmap, we also saw great staff engagement across the organisation.”
A number of teams formed concepts or created apps that will have very real impact on the Assetic product suite, including topics around asset register data quality, cross asset class capital works optimisation, and improving integration methods for change notifications. The winning team (pictured) found a creative and efficient way to solve a time-consuming monthly Finance Department problem using Assetic software. Their prize is a team lunch, and being the first team listed on the inaugural Assetic Hackday trophy.
